Beech Grove Real Estate Information
A mid-sized community in Marion County, Beech Grove, Indiana, lies just off the interstate, 465, that forms a loop surrounding the state's capital city area of Indianapolis. As of the 2000 census, it was home to a population of just under 15,000 and it lies spread among various townships within the county, with parts in Perry, Franklin, Center, and Warren townships. The city once had, and still does, though to a slightly a lesser extent, an abundance of beech trees, which led to the origin of its name.
The city was incorporated in 1906, and is older than many of the surrounding communities. Though Beech Grove is entirely surrounded by and technically included and incorporated into the city of Indianapolis, it still has its own police, fire, public works and parks departments and school system. Residents here are decidedly middle class, generally speaking, with an annual median household income of just over $41,000. There are several non-navigable water systems within the city, mostly creeks that eventually all feed into the west fork of the White River.
Transportation for navigating the town and its outlying areas can be accessed by taking one of the routes on the IndyGo bus system, which travels and offers stops and connections throughout the Indianapolis area. For access out of the area or country, Indianapolis International Airport is just a short drive away from Beech Grove, and Amtrak train stations are not far. Beech Grove does have its own school system, Beech Grove City Schools, which includes two primary, one intermediate, on middle and one high school. There are also two private schools in Beech Grove, a Catholic school serving grades 1-8 and a Christian school serving K-12.
Medial attention and services are provided here at the St. Francis Hospital, an extensive hospital network throughout the region with a large campus here. Events held in Beech Grove each year include the 3rd of July fireworks and a Fall Festival in September. The local gropu the Spotlight Players produce and perform six plays each year for residents to enjoy. Three parks, Sarah T. Bolton Park, South Grove Park and Hartman Park, provide a place for citizens to enjoy the outdoors and the city has its own Beech Grove Library.
