Brownsburg Real Estate Information

A midsized suburb in the capital area in the central part of the state, Brownsburg, Indiana, lies within the boundaries of Hendricks County. As of estimates measured in 2006, the city was home to a population of around 20,000. The city takes up an area of just over seven square miles and its residents have an annual median household income of over $53,000.

The first settler of the town gave it its name, James B. Brown, who arrived here from Kentucky in 1824. A railroad started service to the town in 1869 and by the early part of the 20th century, regular stops were being made in the city between a route connecting Indianapolis and Crawfordsville. The town remained relatively small and quiet up until near the turn of the 20th century, when suburban growth from the Indianapolis area spread here, nearly doubling the population.

The largest employers in Brownsburg include are The Brownsburg Community School Corporation, Wal-Mart, O'Reilly Raceway Park, Home Goods Distribution, Maplehurst Bakeries, Inc., Kroger Company, Marsh Supermarket, K-Mart and the town of Brownsburg. It is just 11 miles from the county seat, Danville. Children and teens attend schools within the Brownsburg Community School Corporation, including one high school, two middle schools and six elementary schools. There are also two private schools, a Christian and a Catholic one.

The town has three golf courses within a 10-minute drive, and seven more if that region is expanded to within 25 minutes. The nearest hospital is about 10 miles away in Danville. Just east of the city is the O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, host of a number of high-profile races and events. The city celebrates annual events like the Festival of the Arts in July, the Haunts of Hidden River hayrides in October, and a Christmas parade on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
