A tiny enclave of a community in Washington Township within Marion County, Wynnedale, Indiana, lies just outside of the state’s capital. At the 2000 census, the town had a population of just over 700, with those residents having a high annual median household income, at just over $93,000, well above the state and area’s averages. The affluent community was incorporated into the city of Indianapolis when it consolidated with several other communities in 1970, but it does still retains its own town government.
Wynnedale makes up an area of just 0.2 square mile, and lies just off Interstate 65, offering residents easy access to the capital and other areas. The community is a bit older than others in the state, speaking generally, with median age for residents 47.5, compared with the state average of just 35.2.
Health care is the largest industry in which residents of Wynnedale are employed, with the nearest hospital just one mile away in Indianapolis, and with several others within just a few miles’ distance. Management and engineering are other common and popular careers for residents of the community. Schools are operated under the Indianapolis Public School system and students attend institutions in nearby communities. There are also several private schools throughout the area for parents to choose from.
Wynnedale is just south of Broadmoor Country Club and Highland Country Club, offering golfers nearby options for enjoyment. It is also just west of Butler University, where residents can enjoy the many cultural, recreational, musical and educational events held and/or sponsored by the university. The many attractions of Indianapolis are just a short drive away as well, from racing and other events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the large and popular children’s museum, and numerous shopping and dining options to professional concerts, performances and shows.
